Sažetak

Ovaj rad ispituje historijski razvoj željezničke linije namijenjene povezivanju Istanbula i Beča tijekom kasnog 19. stoljeća, razdoblja obilježenog brzom industrijalizacijom i geopolitičkim promjenama. Analizirajući političke ambicije, ekonomske interese i strateška razmatranja, rad istražuje zašto je, uprkos početnim planovima da pruga prođe kroz Bosnu i Hercegovinu, željeznica na kraju zaobišla ovu osmansku provinciju. Koristeći izvještaje u stampi i diplomatsku korespondenciju, kao i kulturne tekstove – romane, muziku i fotografije – studija otkriva diplomatske napetosti i međunarodna suparništva koja su oblikovala konačnu rutu željeznice Istanbul-Beč.
